Fabulous art deco metal counter top cash register receipt writer. The cashier is estimated circa 1930s-40s. This piece is working which is a testament to just how well goods were built in the early part of the century. This machine is a receipt writer as well as a cash register/strong box cashier. As the photos can attest it was very used for its purpose but is still working nicely.
The finish is the original hammertone green with chrome accents. The receipt writer still has its carbon copy roll inside, the roll of receipt paper is not in there, but an old billing form was in there when we required it, all the mechanisms in the receipt writer portion appear to function as it should and would pull reciepts through when cranked if you connected the proper paper roll.I have no idea where you would find the receipt paper but I'm sure it could be found online if one wanted to use that portion of the register. There is a lockable storage bin right behind the receipt writer that opens up, I believe your copy of the receipts go to this portion automatically for later retrieval. The cash drawr is lockable and automatically pops open when you crank the handle, there is even a bell chime that goes off when it pops open BUT!! The bell works only intermittently so there may need to be some moving parts that need oiled, the bell chimes about half of the time so it does work but somthing is obviously sticking. The cash drawr has 3 bill compartments at the bottom and a sliding coin tray above the bill portion that slides all the way back so you can access the cash tray underneath. The cash compartment opens automatically when you crank the handle after your sale to make change. There is also an arm that lifts up on top of the machine that appears to be a hole puncher I think. Both original keys ARE INCLUDED and working.
There is a key for the receipts bank, and a key for the cash drawr. The register is heavy, approximately 30 pounds!
So it doesn't slide all over when using it, built like a tank! This register is OLD and very used, has scratches, dings, patina, ware throughout. The handle on the cash drawr has been replaced at one time, it appears to be a filing cabinet handle and there is a piece of black tape on the front of the handle. I'm sure someone used what they had at the time, but let your imagination be your guide for a more impressive handle in the future. The chrome parts have heavy ware and checking/speckling throughout and typical for age.21" long x 17" wide x 5 1/2 tall. This is going to make a great piece to add to your collection or to use in your shop/store.
